TL;DR

Chief Editor (Scientific Publishing): Driving the success and growth of PeerJ by focusing on external engagement and strategic initiatives with an accent on scientific integrity and reputation. Focus on building stakeholder relationships, shaping publication policies, and overseeing editorial operations.

Location: Must be based in the US within commutable distance to Philadelphia or Boca Raton (Hybrid: minimum 3 days per week in-person)

Salary: $115,000 - $130,000 + annual bonus

What you will do

  • Define and implement the strategic editorial vision for PeerJ in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the Editorial Board, funding bodies, and author communities.
  • Oversee scientific quality, editorial integrity, and the implementation of rigorous peer review processes.
  • Represent PeerJ as the public face at high-profile scientific conferences and industry events.
  • Lead, mentor, and recruit a diverse team of editors and Editorial Board members.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including submission rates, acceptance rates, and citation metrics.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant scientific discipline preferred.
  • Significant experience in senior editorial roles within scientific publishing.
  • Extensive knowledge of open access publishing models and publication ethics.
  • Must have the right to work and live in the United States.
  • Ability to work from Philadelphia or Boca Raton offices at least 3 days per week.
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
