Software Development Engineer in Test (Embedded/IoT)

Location: London, United Kingdom; frequent commuting to the London office and onsite work 3–5 days per week required.

Salary: £58,000–£87,000 per year, plus eligibility for the hirify.global Incentive Plan.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks and reusable tools for device software.
• Define test scenarios and testable architectures with software engineering teams.
• Develop and execute automation strategies for Android AOSP, Linux-based edge devices, IoT gateways, device drivers, connectivity modules, and firmware updates.
• Create test plans and protocols for REST and IPC APIs, WebUI, and over-the-air updates.
• Integrate automated quality gates into CI/CD pipelines and maintain testing documentation, standards, and best practices.
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and systems engineers to validate device performance, connectivity, stability, and system-level behavior.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent international degree.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in software automation and test development, or an advanced degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong software development skills for test automation using Python, Java, or an equivalent language.
• Hands-on experience with test management tools and automation frameworks such as Selenium, Appium, or Espresso.
• Experience with CI/CD tools, Android or Linux device operating systems, REST or IPC APIs, and embedded or connected hardware testing.
• Ability to design and implement automated solutions, debug logs, analyze system-level behavior, and work independently.

Nice to have

• Experience with embedded device software development, hardware-in-the-loop testing, USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, video streaming, or imaging devices.
• Familiarity with firmware validation, board bring-up testing, IEC 62304, and safety-critical testing.
