TL;DR
Principal Engineer, Structural QA/QC (Structural Engineering/Industrial QA/QC): Developing and enforcing structural repair quality processes across more than 30 thermomechanical treatment facilities with an accent on contractor oversight, field inspections, and compliance with engineering standards. Focus on analyzing structural risks, resolving nonconformances, reviewing repair packages, and coordinating quality execution across engineering, operations, safety, maintenance, and field teams.

Location: Florham Park, New Jersey, USA; regular travel to facilities required, approximately 30–40% of the time

Salary: $145,000–$170,000 per year, plus eligible benefits and possible discretionary bonuses or incentives.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement standardized QA/QC work processes for structural repair activities across more than 30 thermomechanical treatment facilities.
  • Review repair scopes, drawings, contractor procedures, and engineering packages for compliance with applicable standards and best practices.
  • Travel to facilities, conduct field inspections, and oversee contractor and vendor work during structural repairs.
  • Coordinate with certified weld inspectors to validate repair quality, specifications, code compliance, and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews, audits, risk analyses, and verification activities for planned and emergent repairs.
  • Identify nonconformances, recommend corrective actions, track resolution, and report findings to engineering, operations, safety, maintenance, and outage-management stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • 7+ years of structural engineering experience focused on repair, remediation, or rehabilitation in industrial environments such as power generation, petrochemical, or heavy manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience in QA/QC and contractor or vendor oversight, preferably in a central governance or owner’s representative role.
  • Hands-on experience with field repair activities and coordination with certified weld inspectors.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant codes, standards, QA/QC practices, structural risk analysis, and technical reporting.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary deliverables and communicate technical findings to engineering and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Familiarity with nondestructive testing methods and inspection technologies.
  • Experience with risk-based inspection or reliability-centered maintenance approaches.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety standards, contractor management practices, and QA/QC documentation tools.
