Senior Legal Counsel, Ceded Reinsurance

Location: Richmond, Virginia, United States; hybrid. US work authorization is required, and visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $116,080–$159,610 per year, plus 25% bonus potential.

What you will do

• Provide end-to-end legal support for outwards reinsurance and collateralized risk transfer transactions.
• Structure, draft, negotiate, and finalize reinsurance, trust, broker, commutation, confidentiality, and specialty product agreements.
• Support fronting, quota share, industry loss warranty, and Insurance Linked Securities programs for hirify.global Bermuda Limited.
• Maintain trust and collateral frameworks, Risk Transfer Framework Agreements, signatory governance, and collateral sufficiency controls.
• Advise underwriting, ceded reinsurance, finance, claims, brokers, Nephila legal teams, reinsurers, and external counsel on complex transactions.
• Maintain global reinsurance wording libraries and ensure timely execution, regulatory compliance, governance alignment, and risk controls.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and JD required.
• 8+ years of transactional experience in insurance or reinsurance.
• Deep knowledge of fronting, quota shares, trust agreements, ILWs, collateralized ILS programs, and transactional drafting and negotiation.
• Expertise in Bermuda insurance regulation, BMA filings, governance, collateral, credit, and concentration risk.
• Understanding of US, Bermuda, and England and Wales reinsurance law and regulatory requirements.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with specialty products such as BESS.
• Experience leading complex cross-border negotiations with counterparties and external counsel.
• Experience working with ILS groups, brokers, reinsurers, or Bermuda-based transactions.
