TL;DR

Senior Legal Counsel (Reinsurance): Providing end-to-end legal support for complex outwards reinsurance and collateralized risk transfer transactions with an accent on structuring, drafting, and negotiating reinsurance agreements and ILS programs. Focus on ensuring regulatory compliance, managing trust frameworks, and collaborating across global teams in the US, Bermuda, and London.

Location: Must be based in or able to work from Richmond, VA (Hybrid role)

What you will do

  • Draft, edit, and finalize complex reinsurance contracts, including quota shares, trust agreements, and commutation amendments.
  • Structure and manage Insurance Linked Securities (ILS) activities, including fronting arrangements and collateral frameworks.
  • Partner with underwriting, finance, and claims teams to ensure contract terms align with business intent and risk controls.
  • Advise on specialty product documentation and ensure compliance with Bermuda and US regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance the global library of standard reinsurance wordings and clauses.
  • Coordinate with external counsel and facilitate cross-border negotiations with brokers and reinsurers.

Requirements

  • US Work Authorization required (no visa sponsorship provided).
  • Bachelor’s degree and JD required.
  • 8+ years of experience in (re)insurance transactional work.
  • Deep knowledge of fronting, quota shares, trust agreements, and ILS programs.
  • Expertise in Bermuda insurance regulation and BMA filings.
  • Ability to work in a global team environment and willingness to work independently and remotely.
