Counsel - Trust & Estates

Location: New York, United States; hybrid with a minimum of three days per week in the office. Occasional domestic and overnight travel is required.

Salary: $170,000–$220,000 base salary plus annual bonus target.

What you will do

• Advise two National Trust Companies and one Cayman Trust Company on business acceptance and all aspects of fiduciary administration.
• Review and negotiate trust agreements, wills, entity formation documents, settlement agreements, engagement letters, intercompany agreements, and vendor contracts.
• Partner with Trust Officers, Office Heads, Wealth Planners, Relationship Managers, external counsel, and internal legal teams on complex trust and estate matters.
• Track legal and regulatory developments and prepare practical guidance, memoranda, and multistate law reviews.
• Advise Trust Company Boards and Committees, support key projects, and provide counsel during audits and regulatory examinations.
• Present at legal developments meetings and Trust Officer training, and represent the firm in bar association and industry groups.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree and active bar admission in good standing.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in trusts and estates law.
• Deep knowledge of trust and estate law, complex trust and estate administration, investment structures, and document provisions.
• Knowledge of rules, regulations, and best practices for trust, estate, and entity administration, including state and federal banking requirements.
• Experience applying legal principles to complex fact patterns and developing creative business solutions.
• Strong written and oral communication, drafting, project management, and senior stakeholder collaboration skills.
