Manager, Underwriting Mid-Market (WC) Florida

Location: Remote United States; must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Travel up to 30% within the assigned region and to corporate offices as needed.

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 USD annually, plus bonus potential.

What you will do

• Lead regional Workers’ Compensation underwriting operations, portfolio management, risk selection, pricing discipline, retention, and profitable growth.
• Analyze payroll, class codes, loss runs, experience modification factors, operational controls, return-to-work programs, and industry risk characteristics.
• Serve as the senior underwriting referral authority for complex or large accounts and ensure compliance with company guidelines, delegated authority standards, state regulations, NCCI, and independent state bureaus.
• Build relationships with retail agents, wholesale brokers, program administrators, and strategic distribution partners while driving regional business plans.
• Lead, mentor, and develop underwriting talent through coaching, technical training, referral guidance, and performance management.
• Collaborate with claims, actuarial, finance, product, compliance, and operations teams on underwriting performance, analytics, workflow optimization, automation, and AI-enabled underwriting tools.

Requirements

• 7+ years of Workers’ Compensation underwriting experience, including underwriting strategy, portfolio management, pricing, and agency development.
• Leadership experience managing underwriting teams, territories, or regional operations.
• Strong knowledge of NCCI and state bureau regulations, experience modification analysis, payroll and class code review, loss trends, medical and indemnity cost drivers, large deductible and loss-sensitive structures, and multi-state underwriting.
• Demonstrated success building and managing profitable Workers’ Compensation books of business and strong broker, agency, and distribution relationships.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience, along with strong analytical, communication, organizational, and team development skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• CPCU, CIC, ARM, or another insurance designation.
• Experience in MGA, carrier, delegated authority, wholesale, or specialty insurance environments.
• Experience with underwriting analytics, predictive modeling, modern underwriting technology, transformation, modernization, or AI-enabled underwriting initiatives.
