Software Development Manager (Data Platform)

TL;DR

Software Development Manager (Data Platform): Leading the Content Data Platform team to build and maintain robust data infrastructure for map content with an accent on data ingestion, provenance, and quality. Focus on driving cross-team convergence, mentoring engineers, and delivering scalable data contracts to support downstream product verticals.

Location: Must be based in the United States (Corporate offices in Montana or designated Basecamps/Connection Hubs).

Salary: $150,000–$188,000

What you will do

• Support and mentor a cross-functional team of data engineers and geospatial analysts.
• Drive the delivery of the Content Foundation roadmap, including unified data ingestion and versioned data contracts.
• Establish production reliability practices, including SLOs, monitoring, and incident management.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to converge on shared Lakehouse and metadata infrastructure.
• Embed data quality as a platform constraint using shift-left validation and automated gates.
• Translate business strategy into clear engineering direction and communicate platform value to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Permanent US work authorization required.
• At least 5 years of experience directly managing software engineers.
• Proven experience leading teams building data platform or data infrastructure systems.
• Experience leading migrations from legacy systems to modern infrastructure.
• Ability to travel for multiple days to corporate offices or strategic locations.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence without authority in a matrixed environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with the GCP data stack (BigQuery, Spark, Airflow).
• Familiarity with Apache Iceberg, dbt, and DuckDB.
• Exposure to geospatial data processing (GDAL, PostGIS).
• Experience managing teams in an outdoor or location technology context.
