What you will do

  • Interpret and apply NFPA, IFC, UL, and IEC standards to guide BESS product development.
  • Review and approve mechanical drawings, CAD models, and safety-critical enclosure designs.
  • Oversee UL 9540/9540A testing and fire/explosion modeling using tools like FLACS or Ansys.
  • Develop fire code compliance matrices and manage permitting documentation with AHJs.
  • Lead the development of emergency response documentation and safety packages.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of BESS integration practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Fire Protection Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of experience in mechanical design and fire protection for industrial or safety-critical systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of BESS fire codes (UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 68/69/72/855).
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD and safety modeling tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time for project support.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Direct experience with utility-scale BESS.
  • Active participation in standards organizations like NFPA, UL, or IEEE.
  • Experience with advanced fire modeling tools such as FLACS, Ansys, or FDS.
