Manager or Senior Manager, Design Engineering, Energy Storage (BESS)

Location: Greenwood Village, Colorado, United States

Annual base salary: $150,000–$180,000, plus variable compensation and benefits.

What you will do

• Define technical standards, basis-of-design criteria, specifications, and project requirements for utility-scale battery energy storage systems.
• Lead BESS design and integration across LV collection systems, inverters, layouts, auxiliary power, plant interfaces, and operating use cases.
• Review OEM and EPC proposals, design packages, submittals, exceptions, deviations, and technical changes for compliance.
• Manage scope boundaries and interface matrices across OEM, EPC, SCADA/controls, suppliers, and hirify.global.
• Serve as the technical escalation point for RFIs, design clarifications, and field engineering issues.
• Define commissioning and performance testing bases, support test protocols and acceptance criteria, and incorporate operating lessons into future standards.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in engineering, electrical engineering, power systems, or a related technical field.
• Significant experience in utility-scale battery energy storage engineering, system integration, design review, or product engineering.
• Strong knowledge of BMS architecture, PCS/inverters, EMS and plant controls, SCADA interfaces, fire safety systems, transformers, switchgear, and medium-voltage equipment.
• Experience developing technical specifications, reviewing OEM/EPC designs, and managing multidisciplinary design compliance.
• Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills across development, procurement, construction, commissioning, and supplier activities.

Nice to have

• Experience with fully integrated BESS OEM solutions and DC block or split-package delivery structures.
• Experience supporting FAT, SAT, commissioning, and performance testing for utility-scale battery projects.
• Familiarity with project contracts and technical exhibits, fire protection engineering deliverables, fire alarm design, NFPA 72, and NFPA 855.
