Legal Counsel (AI)

Location: New York, United States; hybrid working model

Salary: US annualized base salary of $150,000–$175,000, plus eligibility for an annual performance-related bonus.

What you will do

• Support the Head of Legal for North America on US-related legal matters and contribute to the development of the US legal team.
• Draft, negotiate, and manage complex licensing and commercial agreements with academic, corporate, and government customers across North and South America.
• Advise commercial, sales, publishing, technology, and corporate stakeholders on contracts, intellectual property, data privacy, AI, compliance, and regulatory matters.
• Support litigation, disputes, investigations, subpoenas, regulatory inquiries, discovery, and dispute resolution strategies.
• Provide strategic risk assessments and practical legal recommendations to senior stakeholders, including the VP of Sales, Americas.
• Deliver legal training and contribute to templates, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and best practices across the organization.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Admitted attorney and member in good standing of the New York State Bar.
• At least 4 years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house environment, including corporate, commercial, intellectual property, and technology matters.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on commercial agreements.
• Experience supporting litigation, disputes, investigations, subpoenas, regulatory inquiries, or external counsel matters.
• Familiarity with artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, data usage, intellectual property, and regulatory developments.

Nice to have

• Publishing and media law experience, including copyright, defamation, privacy, publicity, internet, or social media matters.
• Spanish or Portuguese language proficiency.
• State and federal contracting experience.
