Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Illinois, United States; hybrid/remote

Salary: $79,000–$119,000 annually, plus annual performance bonus and long-term incentives

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate performant, scalable, and secure backend services for the aiR generative AI platform.
• Develop high-throughput systems for AI workloads, including asynchronous job orchestration and distributed processing.
• Build multi-region, multi-cloud services that route and manage AI traffic across regions and providers.
• Collaborate with software engineers to deliver reliable systems operating at massive scale.
• Write unit and integration tests, apply static analysis, and improve testing strategies.
• Improve engineering tools, workflows, and practices through process enhancements and pair programming.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience building backend services with C#, Python, or similar languages.
• Understanding of software engineering disciplines and the ability to work across multiple application layers.
• Strong foundational knowledge of distributed systems, scalability, and backend service design.
• Experience with automation, engineering design, problem solving, quality assurance, system integration, troubleshooting, and process improvement.

Nice to have

• Understanding of DevOps principles and experience with GitHub Actions.
• Experience with LLM APIs, generative AI systems, Azure, or other cloud platforms.
• Experience with Kubernetes, serverless technologies, and cloud-native architectures.
• Familiarity with domain-driven design, event-driven architecture, and AI-assisted coding tools.
