Associate Counsel

TL;DR

Associate Counsel (Legal): Providing comprehensive legal and business affairs support to Warner Music Canada with an accent on artist agreements, intellectual property, and corporate governance. Focus on acting as the primary in-house legal advisor for the region, managing commercial negotiations, and supporting senior leadership in a fast-paced music industry environment.

Location: Must be based in Toronto, Canada. This role requires in-office presence 4 days per week.

Salary: $120,000 - $170,000/annual

What you will do

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements including recording, distribution, and brand partnership deals.
• Support the full artist lifecycle from signings and renegotiations to terminations.
• Serve as a trusted legal advisor to senior management and cross-functional teams.
• Advise on copyright, trademarks, and digital rights matters.
• Represent the company on industry boards and committees.
• Oversee corporate governance, compliance, and contract management systems.

Requirements

• Canadian law degree and member in good standing with a Canadian law society.
• Minimum 5–6 years of post-call experience.
• Strong knowledge of copyright law and commercial recording agreements.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
• Commercially astute, collaborative, and culturally aware.

Nice to have

• Experience working within a music company or multinational organization.
• Experience negotiating DSP, artist, and brand partnership agreements.
• Familiarity with Canadian and global music industry practices.
