Complex Claims Specialist-MPL

Location: Hybrid, with in-office attendance at least two days per week for candidates near an office; qualified remote candidates may also be considered. The role can be based in Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Manhattan, NY; or West Hartford, CT.

Salary: $125,000–$155,000 per year, plus performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Handle complex mid- to high-severity primary Miscellaneous Professional Liability claims from inception through resolution.
• Adjust and resolve claims through all phases of litigation, including investigation, negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and trial.
• Draft complex coverage letters, including reservation-of-rights and denial letters.
• Review claim documentation and legal filings while leading defense strategy and litigation best practices.
• Collaborate with insureds, brokers, outside experts, legal counsel, underwriting, and other internal partners.
• Identify emerging exposures, claims trends, and suspected fraud while maintaining accurate claim files.

Requirements

• 6+ years of Professional Liability and/or Specialty or Financial Lines claims-handling experience.
• B.A. or B.S. degree required; a JD from an ABA-accredited law school may supplement claims experience and is preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of insurance coverage, litigation processes, and negotiation.
• Demonstrated ability to influence complex claims outcomes and lead litigation with minimal supervision.
• Experience mentoring and training claims examiners, with strong verbal, written, and analytical skills.
• Adjuster licensing is required within 90 days of employment.
