Staff Software Engineer

TL;DR

Staff Software Engineer (Backend/Trading APIs): Design and build performant, reliable, and scalable services for an API trading ecosystem with an accent on low-latency data flows, correctness under pressure, and evolving REST/FIX/WebSocket APIs. Focus on optimizing trading paths, owning core API components, and improving end-to-end trading API experience while participating in on-call support for mission-critical systems.

Location: London, UK (in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week)

What you will do

• Design and build performant, reliable, and scalable services for the API trading ecosystem.
• Optimize low-latency data flows and trading paths, ensuring correctness under high load.
• Own and evolve core components of REST, FIX, and WebSocket APIs.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and frontend teams to deliver seamless API solutions.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support mission-critical trading systems.
• Continuously measure, monitor, and improve the trading API experience.

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Proven experience designing high-performance systems with low-latency and high-throughput requirements.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, especially AWS services.
• Solid database experience with SQL (MySQL) and/or NoSQL (DynamoDB).
• Experience working on or with production-grade trading APIs or high-volume systems.
• Ability to work from the London office with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week, and participate in an on-call rotation.

Nice to have

• Built or operated an automated trading bot or trading system.
• Hands-on experience with the FIX protocol and order management systems.
• Knowledge of WebSockets, streaming market data, or real-time API performance tuning.
• Interest in financial markets and building tools for professional traders.
