Cybersecurity Intern

TL;DR

Cybersecurity Intern (AWS/Python): Assisting the cybersecurity team with identity, cloud, and endpoint security with an accent on security findings investigation and audit compliance. Focus on maintaining security documentation, supporting remediation plans, and implementing small, well-scoped security projects.

Location: Hybrid (Waterloo, Ontario). Must be available to work from the Waterloo office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Salary: $22 CAD per hour

What you will do

• Support day-to-day security operations across identity, cloud, and endpoint protection.
• Investigate security findings and contribute to the development of remediation plans.
• Assist in audit and compliance efforts, including evidence gathering and documentation.
• Maintain and update documentation for security tools, policies, and processes.
• Take ownership of small, scoped projects to build a professional security portfolio.
• Document learning and findings to benefit future team members.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Foundational knowledge of the CIA triad, common vulnerability classes, and basic networking.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language such as Python, JavaScript, or Bash.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts, preferably AWS.
• Basic understanding of Identity & Access Management (IAM).
• Must be based in or able to commute to the Waterloo office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Coursework or self-study in cloud security, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or Security+ certifications.
• Experience with documentation tools like Confluence and Jira.
• Familiarity with IDPs such as Okta, Entra, or Google.
• Participation in CTFs, home labs, or independent security projects.
