Engineering Manager (Privacy Infrastructure): Building and leading the privacy engineering team to design and operate infrastructure protecting user data across AI systems with an accent on data governance, regulatory compliance, and privacy-preserving architectures. Focus on scaling privacy controls for billions of conversations and integrating automated compliance into the AI training and inference lifecycle.

Location: Hybrid (at least 25% in-office). Must be based in or be able to work from San Francisco, CA or Seattle, WA.

Salary: $405,000 - $485,000 USD

What you will do

• Recruit, develop, and lead a high-leverage team of exceptional privacy engineers.
• Define and drive the technical strategy for privacy infrastructure across training, inference, and product surfaces.
• Build automated data discovery, classification, access controls, and lifecycle management systems.
• Translate complex regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, EU AI Act) into actionable technical implementations.
• Oversee technical privacy reviews and threat modeling for new AI models and features.
• Champion privacy-by-default frameworks to embed controls into inference systems and data pipelines.

Requirements

• Significant experience managing engineering teams through periods of rapid change and ambiguity.
• Deep expertise in privacy-by-design, data minimization, and purpose limitation.
• Strong technical foundation in data governance (encryption, audit logging, deletion/retention systems).
• Ability to translate legal requirements (GDPR, CCPA) into technical solutions.
• Experience with classification and lifecycle management for large user bases.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Nice to have

• 8+ years of experience managing technical teams.
• Exposure to AI/ML infrastructure and the unique privacy demands of large-scale training and inference.
• Track record of scaling privacy infrastructure during company hypergrowth.
