Regulatory Counsel (Fintech)

TL;DR

Regulatory Counsel (Fintech): Advising on product development and supporting the compliance management system (CMS) within a fast-growing digital banking platform with an accent on consumer financial protection laws and state licensing. Focus on providing practical regulatory guidance for new features, managing vendor risk, and liaising with partner banks to ensure regulatory accuracy.

Location: Must be based in the US. Remote is available for US-based candidates; NYC-based candidates are expected in the office 3 days a week.

Salary: $160,000 – $180,000

What you will do

• Serve as primary legal advisor on product counseling and go-to-market strategies.
• Advise on consumer financial protection laws including UDAAP, fair lending, and state licensing requirements.
• Support the compliance management system (CMS), including policies, training, and monitoring.
• Review and approve customer-facing materials and marketing collateral for regulatory accuracy.
• Manage third-party vendor risk and oversee the licensing portfolio.
• Liaise with Partner Banks and coordinate responses for regulatory examinations.

Requirements

• J.D. and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 3+ years of regulatory legal experience in a law firm, financial institution, or fintech.
• Substantive knowledge of TILA, EFTA, ECOA, UDAAP, and state lending laws.
• Experience advising on product initiatives in regulated environments.
• Proficiency in compliance management systems and their core components.
• Must be based in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with state money transmission or lending licensing.
• Experience with partner bank relationships.
• Familiarity with third-party risk management frameworks.
