What you will do

• Strategically manage Scale’s worldwide intellectual property portfolio and align IP strategy with business objectives.
• Oversee invention sessions, disclosure selection, patent application drafting, and prosecution.
• Partner with product and business teams to embed IP protection and compliance into product design.
• Develop creative legal frameworks to support new AI products and customer experiences.
• Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements at the intersection of IP and AI.
• Collaborate with the General Counsel to advance the strategic vision of the Product Legal team.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in-house and at a top law firm, specializing in IP portfolio management and product counseling.
• Ability to calibrate business vs legal risk and communicate effectively to executive and technical audiences.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills for complex legal challenges.
• JD and membership of the California Bar in good standing.
• Deep interest in generative AI and machine learning technologies.

• Experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications specifically for AI and machine learning technologies.
