TL;DR

US Safeguarding Associate (Non-profit): Managing safeguarding risk assessments and case responses to ensure the protection and dignity of recipients in a global aid context. Focus on identifying operational risks, maintaining referral pathways, and training staff on survivor-centered practices.

Location: Must be based in the United States. Must be able to overlap with East Africa time zone for at least 3 hours daily.

Salary: $74,900 annually ($6,241.67/monthly).

What you will do

  • Conduct safeguarding risk assessments and review operational tools to prevent abuse.
  • Manage and document safeguarding concerns using survivor-centered protocols.
  • Develop a network of safeguarding focal points to strengthen local risk identification.
  • Maintain referral pathways by engaging with trusted local service providers.
  • Deliver ongoing safeguarding training and onboarding sessions for staff and partners.
  • Represent safeguarding needs in field operations and maintain relationships with community actors.

Requirements

  • Must be based in the United States.
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in safeguarding, protection, or social work.
  • Strong judgment and ability to handle sensitive, complex safeguarding situations.
  • Commitment to survivor-centered practice and ethical decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently in remote settings and manage competing priorities.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in Spanish or Arabic.
  • Personal or professional experience in low-income or historically marginalized communities.
