TL;DR
Lead Software and Controls Engineer – GM Defense (Automotive): Designing and implementing embedded control systems and algorithms for vehicle and non-vehicle applications with an accent on C, MATLAB, Simulink, calibration, and complex electrical architectures. Focus on integrating propulsion and chassis controls, leading software verification and feature validation, and balancing GM best practices with government specifications.

Location: Milford, Michigan, United States; hybrid with on-site attendance at least 3 times per week.

What you will do

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and calibration of embedded control systems for vehicle and non-vehicle applications.
  • Develop control algorithms using C, MATLAB, and Simulink for propulsion, chassis, and other complex systems.
  • Integrate controls into new and existing supervisory systems in collaboration with systems integration engineers.
  • Drive software architecture decisions, requirements development, verification, and feature validation.
  • Mentor engineers, lead peer reviews, explain algorithm decisions, and present updates to technical leadership.
  • Balance GM best practices with government specifications and implement customer-specific solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive embedded controls experience in algorithms, software, or calibration.
  • 5+ years of experience with C programming, MATLAB, and Simulink algorithm development.
  • Experience with Agile CI/CD workflows, automated build environments, Git, and Jenkins.
  • Experience with INCA, Vehicle Spy, GM data logging tools, and related file formats.
  • Must be a U.S. Person or eligible to obtain required export-control authorizations; U.S. work authorization is required, and immigration sponsorship is not provided.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Familiarity with GM’s VIP electrical architecture.
  • GM Level 2 Driving Certification.
  • Vehicle development and vehicle build experience.
  • GM DFSS Black Belt Certification or certification in progress.
