TL;DR
Staff Embedded Software Engineer (Automotive) (C/C++): Developing embedded control and data plane infrastructure for managing configuration, device state, and vehicle data across a distributed fleet with an accent on reliability over intermittent connectivity, rapid configuration convergence, and minimal ECU resource usage. Focus on designing fleet-scale coordination systems, integrating cloud services, implementing observability and remote diagnostics, and optimizing software for production vehicle platforms.

Location: Austin, Texas or Warren, Michigan, United States

Company

hirify.global develops automotive technologies focused on safer, cleaner, and more connected transportation.

What you will do

  • Design and maintain the on-vehicle control plane that retrieves cloud configuration and applies it across vehicle ECUs.
  • Build the on-vehicle data plane that collects, processes, and forwards vehicle data to cloud storage.
  • Optimize configuration delivery and data egress for intermittent connectivity, fast convergence, and minimal CPU and memory usage.
  • Integrate with Azure, AWS S3, and Firestore for configuration delivery, device state reporting, and data egress.
  • Implement observability, production diagnostics, and safe software and configuration rollouts with DevOps and Cloud teams.
  • Drive technical direction for fleet-scale configuration distribution, version management, device identity, remote diagnostics, and open-source contributions.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on software development experience with C, C++, or related languages.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience developing software for Linux, Android, and QNX.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems, configuration management, large-scale data pipelines, and fleet management or control-plane systems.
  • Familiarity with UDS, CAN, SOME/IP, XCP, and AUTOSAR standards.
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role; candidates must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of mTLS, certificate-based device identity, device provisioning, and cloud-to-device security.
  • Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, IoT Hub, IoT Core, Pub/Sub, or equivalent device-management services.
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry, Firestore, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools.
  • Experience building fleet management, OTA, or remote configuration systems.
  • Contributions to Fluent Bit or other data-intensive open-source projects.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with total rewards and benefits supporting well-being at work and at home.
  • Inclusive workplace focused on belonging, equal opportunity, and meaningful automotive innovation.
  • Opportunities to mentor peers and contribute to engineering practices and the open-source community.

Hiring process

  • Role-related assessments and pre-employment screening may be required.
