TL;DR

Associate Director, Bioinformatics Development (Oncology): Leading the bioinformatics strategy and development of next-generation minimal residual disease (MRD) laboratory-developed tests with an accent on NGS ctDNA-based oncology assay development. Focus on technical leadership, cross-program coordination, and ensuring analytical robustness under CAP/CLIA regulatory standards.

Location: Must be based in the United States (Remote, San Diego, or South San Francisco).

Salary: $192,000 – $231,000 USD (varies by location).

What you will do

  • Lead bioinformatics strategy for MRD assay design, development, and optimization across LDT programs.
  • Oversee analytical study design and validation, including accuracy, precision, and robustness testing.
  • Guide the development and maintenance of scalable, production-ready bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Provide scientific mentorship and technical guidance to bioinformatics scientists.
  • Partner with wet-lab, clinical, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with CAP/CLIA and FDA standards.
  • Communicate complex analytical concepts to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or Biostatistics.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years of management experience.
  • Proven experience in design-controlled, regulated environments (CAP/CLIA, IVD).
  • Hands-on experience with NGS-based assay development and ctDNA-based MRD assays.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and experience with production-grade analysis pipelines.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Experience deploying bioinformatics workflows in AWS (EC2, S3, Batch, Lambda).
  • Working knowledge of R.
  • Experience with relational and non-relational database technologies.
