TL;DR
Data Center Energy Lead (Energy): Securing and accelerating energy delivery for AI compute infrastructure across Australia with an accent on energy procurement and regulatory strategy. Location: Hybrid (Sydney, Australia). Must be based in Australia or be eligible for visa sponsorship.

What you will do
- Lead energy procurement and market strategies to secure multi-hundred MW power capacity across NEM, WEM, and NTEM.
- Develop creative energy deployment methods, including grid-connected and behind-the-meter solutions, to accelerate energization.
- Manage strategic relationships with ISOs, TNSPs, DNSPs, and state regulators across multiple Australian jurisdictions.
- Drive energy policy strategy to address grid capacity challenges and expedite approval processes for critical AI infrastructure.
- Partner with engineering and delivery teams to translate market dynamics and network constraints into actionable capacity strategies.
- Structure innovative commercial frameworks, such as PPAs and network use of system arrangements, to mitigate grid risks.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in energy procurement, utility development, or power markets for large-scale infrastructure.
- Deep expertise in the Australian energy landscape (NEM, WEM, NTEM) and transmission system planning.
- Proven track record of securing 100+ MW of power capacity and navigating complex connection agreements and PPAs.
- Proficiency in analyzing energy market dynamics, regulatory frameworks (NER), and grid constraints.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with regulators (AER, AEMC) and policymakers.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study.
Nice to have
- Experience with energy procurement specifically for datacenters, high-performance computing, or AI/ML infrastructure.
- Familiarity with hyperscale infrastructure power demands for AI training and inference workloads.
- Background in transmission planning, connection studies, or grid capacity analysis under the NER.
- Understanding of emerging grid technologies such as BESS, demand response, or virtual power plants.
