What you will do

  • Implement and operate cross-region replication for Aurora MySQL, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, Cassandra, ElastiCache, Neptune, and OpenSearch.
  • Codify all infrastructure using Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • Build the observability layer for replication health using Datadog and CloudWatch, including lag metrics and alarm thresholds.
  • Author and execute failover/failback runbooks and conduct game-days using AWS Fault Injection Service to meet RTO and RPO targets.
  • Develop CDC pipelines using DMS, DynamoDB Streams, Kafka Connect, or Debezium to support data extraction from monoliths to microservices.
  • Collaborate with application engineers on connection-string abstraction, retry patterns, and graceful degradation.

Requirements

  • Must be based in the USA.
  • 5+ years of production database engineering on AWS, with experience in financial services (payments, banking, or brokerage).
  • Deep production experience with at least two of: Aurora MySQL, Cassandra, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, DocumentDB, or Neptune.
  • Strong proficiency in Terraform or CDK for building multi-region modules from scratch.
  • Practical experience with CDC tooling (DMS, DDB Streams, Kafka Connect, or Debezium).
  • Knowledge of Linux, networking fundamentals (VPC, Transit Gateway), IAM, and KMS.

Nice to have

  • Cassandra multi-DC operations experience at scale (nodetool, repair strategy, tombstone management).
  • AWS MSK or Kafka MirrorMaker 2 experience for cross-region event replication.
  • Experience with Datadog Database Monitoring and custom CloudWatch metrics.
  • AWS Database Specialty or Solutions Architect certifications.
