Senior Infrastructure Engineer (VMware)

TL;DR

Senior Infrastructure Engineer (VMware/Azure): Leading infrastructure optimisation and cost reduction for a large BPO organisation with an accent on rightsizing VMware and Azure estates, storage optimisation, and decommissioning. Focus on automating resource discovery, implementing storage lifecycle policies, and coordinating with stakeholders via CAB to validate cost savings.

Location: Hybrid (New York, Jersey City, Atlanta, Charlotte, or South Florida). Must be based on the US East Coast

What you will do

• Analyse CPU and memory utilisation across VMware estates to identify and execute rightsizing opportunities.
• Coordinate the decommissioning of idle virtual machines, ensuring backup validation and CMDB updates.
• Design and implement automated start/stop schedules for non-production Azure environments to reduce costs.
• Remediate orphaned storage volumes and implement Azure Blob Storage lifecycle policies.
• Support SQL Server licence optimisation through feature-usage assessments and edition downgrades.
• Represent the programme at Change Advisory Boards (CAB) and provide technical leadership to other engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on VMware vSphere/ESXi administration experience.
• Proven experience managing Azure IaaS environments and Blob lifecycle management.
• Proficiency in PowerShell and/or Python for developing automated discovery and reporting scripts.
• Experience with enterprise storage optimisation and tiering strategies.
• Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM environments and CAB change-management processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging with senior client leadership

Nice to have

• Understanding of FinOps principles, chargeback/showback models, and Azure tagging strategies.
• Knowledge of SQL Server licensing models and edition features.
