What you will do

• Lead all accounting operations for the MGA and surplus lines carrier, including general ledger and intercompany accounting.
• Prepare financial statements according to U.S. GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), including NAIC Annual Statements.
• Manage regulatory filings (Schedules F, P, D, T), Risk-Based Capital (RBC) calculations, and state filings.
• Design and maintain scalable internal controls and financial policies (SOX-style frameworks).
• Direct the annual statutory and GAAP audits, serving as the main liaison for auditors and regulators.
• Mentor the accounting team and partner with the CEO to provide strategic financial insights and variance analysis.

Requirements

• Insurance carrier experience is required, specifically spanning an MGA and a surplus lines or admitted carrier.
• Statutory accounting (SAP) and NAIC reporting experience is required.
• Big Four background (Deloitte, PwC, EY, or KPMG) is required.
• CPA designation is required.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and SAP, including reconciliations and bridging entries.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or an MBA.
• Experience in high-growth insurtech or specialty insurance scale-ups.
• Familiarity with investment accounting (SSAP No. 26R, 30R, 43R).
• Proficiency with insurance ERPs such as Workiva, EagleEye, or SunGard EAS.
• Prior experience with SOX internal controls implementation.
