TL;DR

Mechanical Engineer, Fluids Systems (Nuclear): Designing and owning critical fluid systems for portable nuclear microreactors with an accent on thermal-hydraulic analysis, component selection, and production. Focus on converting reactor core heat into electrical power through the design of primary loop subsystems and power conversion loops.

Location: Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ. No visa sponsorship available.

Salary: $107.5K – $150K + Equity

hirify.global is a startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors to provide critical power for hospitals, data centers, and military bases.

What you will do

  • Own end-to-end engineering of fluid systems and components, including compressors, valves, and heat exchangers.
  • Perform complex thermal and fluids analysis using first-principle hand calculations and FEA tools to drive design decisions.
  • Conduct trade studies to optimize system performance and ensure alignment with program requirements.
  • Develop and execute manufacturing instructions, assembly plans, and test protocols.
  • Manage the Bill-Of-Materials (BOM) and develop a reliable supplier network for all components.
  • Lead risk analysis (FMEA) for subsystems and provide technical expertise to multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Aeronautical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in designing, building, and testing fluids systems.
  • Proficient knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat exchanger design and analysis.
  • Must be able to comply with U.S. export controls.
  • Unable to provide visa sponsorship.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of thermodynamic power cycles and experience with piping systems for thermal growth.
  • Experience with process piping design and testing codes, such as ASME B31.3 and ASME PCC-2.
  • Proficiency in fluid system modeling using Matlab or Python.
  • Experience in design for manufacturability (DFM) and operating test stands.
