What you will do

• Own the technical vision and coordinate shared direction across multiple cross-functional teams.
• Contribute to annual and quarterly planning, translating business goals into actionable engineering priorities.
• Actively contribute code while mentoring engineers and unblocking delivery.
• Design scalable, evolvable systems and define architectural roadmaps for long-term growth.
• Lead observability and reliability practices, including defining SLOs and handling production incidents.
• Drive alignment across the broader organization to manage dependencies and resolve blockers.

Requirements

• Must be based within commuting distance of Birmingham, UK or willing to relocate.
• Proven experience in cross-team technical leadership and managing complex dependencies.
• Strong architectural judgment with a focus on scalable, evolvable systems.
• Deep backend expertise with comfort in full-stack development (Python/AWS preferred).
• Experience operating services in production with a "you build it, you run it" mindset.
• Experience working in domains with significant underlying complexity (e.g., travel, fintech).
• English proficiency required for all official communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-augmented workflows and agentic coding.
• Background in travel or flight booking systems.
