TL;DR

Backend Engineer (AI): Designing and implementing multi-tenant cloud and on-premise platforms for AI-powered software development with an accent on distributed systems, API design, and orchestration. Focus on building scalable, secure backend services that power frontier AI models and developer experiences.

Location: Remote (EMEA/East Coast). The team meets in Paris monthly for 3 days of in-person collaboration.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and operate backend services, APIs, and orchestration systems.
  • Collaborate with product, research, and engineering teams to deliver end-to-end capabilities.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response to ensure system reliability.
  • Improve deployment processes for on-premise enterprise environments.
  • Drive continual improvements to operational posture and system performance.

Requirements

  • Must be based in EMEA or East Coast time zones.
  • Significant experience building and operating multi-tenant backend APIs at scale.
  • Strong expertise in distributed systems, consistency models, and fault tolerance.
  • Proficiency in Go, Ruby, or Python.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and observability tools.
  • Ability to work effectively with ambiguity in a self-directed environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience deploying into enterprise on-premise environments.
  • Experience with durable execution and workflow engines like Temporal.
