Wireless Technical Support Engineer (Networking)

Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico; hybrid work with an average requirement of 2 days per week from an HPE office. U.S. citizenship is required for work in a FedRAMP High compliant environment. Relocation support is provided for eligible candidates.

What you will do

• Triage and resolve customer support escalations through multiple inbound channels while meeting response-quality, timeliness, and customer-experience expectations.
• Build and maintain Layer 2/3 network testbeds, understand product features, and reproduce customer issues.
• Analyze logs, packet captures, event traces, and diagnostic outputs to isolate faults and identify root causes across multiple network layers.
• File defect tickets, work with developers to drive solutions, and communicate evidence-based findings.
• Participate in relevant meetings and discussions and provide status reports.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering; a focus in Networking is preferred.
• Typically 2–4 years of experience.
• Knowledge of 802.11 Wi-Fi and wireless standards, routing, and Wireshark.
• Strong foundational knowledge of TCP/IP networking, Ethernet, IPv4/IPv6, subnetting, VLANs, Layer 2 switching, and Layer 3 routing.
• Ability to investigate TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ARP, ICMP, TCP/UDP, MTU, and end-to-end connectivity issues.
• Strong knowledge of wireless security, network segmentation, authentication including 802.1X and RADIUS, and integration with enterprise switching, routing, and firewalls.
• Ability to analyze logs and packet captures, isolate faults, reproduce issues, and determine root causes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in the languages required for the role.
• Ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options at senior management levels.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
