Building Inspector

TL;DR

Building Inspector: Inspecting commercial buildings for adherence to safety codes and regulations with an accent on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire and life safety systems. Focus on identifying deviations from codes and standards, communicating with building owners, and ensuring speedy execution of inspections and reporting.

Location: Home Based Position – Preferably Southeast USA – although other locations may be acceptable based on experience. Candidate preferred to be located close to airport due to travel requirements

What you will do

• Inspect buildings for compliance with building codes, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire and life safety systems.
• Read and interpret building codes, standards, drawings, instructions, and specifications.
• Identify, record, and report deviations from codes and standards.
• Communicate with building owners and facility managers regarding code compliance, inspection procedures, and related items.
• Ensure speedy execution of inspections and reporting.
• Educate and influence Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) as needed.

Requirements

• University Degree (Equivalent to Associates degree) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Safety Engineering preferred Related discipline plus generally five years’ experience as an inspector, building contractor, engineer or other building related trades.
• ICC Combo commercial Inspector certification
• Certified Electrical Plans Examiner
• Knowledge to interpret building codes and ability to identify non-compliant installations as essential.
• Good verbal communication skills with customers.
• Must have excellent computer skills.
