TL;DR

Costs Negotiator (Legal): Managing the settlement of legal costs for legacy industrial disease claims with an accent on costs strategy and settlement parameters. Focus on negotiating settlements via telephone and conducting advocacy in court hearings.

Location: Hybrid, primary location is Birmingham Office

What you will do

  • Review cases to formulate initial costs strategies and settlement parameters.
  • Prepare points of dispute and identify strengths and weaknesses of claims.
  • Negotiate the settlement of costs through telephone communication and meritorious arguments.
  • Conduct advocacy at court application hearings, detailed assessment hearings, and mediations.
  • Manage a personal caseload while delivering performance targets, SLAs, and KPIs.
  • Delegate tasks to paralegals and actively support their technical development.

Requirements

  • Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Detailed Assessment process and relevant CPR provisions relating to costs.
  • Previous experience in client/customer liaison, providing advice both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong telephone negotiation and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work from the Birmingham office.

Nice to have

  • Experience in a similar junior costs negotiator role, either for claimant or defendant, handling own caseload.
