TL;DR

Junior Costs Negotiator (Legal): Managing a caseload of RTA/EL/PL claims to resolve costs with an accent on negotiation, strategy formulation, and client communication. Focus on achieving settlement parameters, preparing points of dispute, and ensuring compliance with SRA standards and client SLAs.

Location: Must be based in or able to commute to the Bolton office (Hybrid role).

What you will do

  • Manage a personal caseload from receipt of papers to final resolution of costs.
  • Formulate costs strategies and settlement parameters for RTA/EL/PL claims.
  • Negotiate settlements via telephone and document strengths and weaknesses of claims.
  • Prepare points of dispute and consider replies in line with client requirements.
  • Attend court hearings and mediations, both remotely and in person, to conduct advocacy.
  • Delegate tasks to paralegals and support their technical development.

Requirements

  • Degree, LPC, or ALCD qualification required.
  • Understanding of the Detailed Assessment process and relevant CPR provisions.
  • Experience in client liaison and providing professional advice.
  • Strong telephone negotiation and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize workloads, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in a similar junior costs role for claimant or defendant.
  • Knowledge of current cost case law and insurance litigation practice.
