What you will do
- Act as Lead ERISA & employee benefits attorney.
- Contribute broadly across the Legal function.
- Advice on ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA compliance with respect to HRA and other plan designs and claims processing in the US.
- Negotiate BAA and review HRA, adoption assistance, gestational surrogacy and other benefit plan documents.
- Provide strategic advice and counsel to Carrot regarding new product offerings, state and federal taxation, compliance, privacy, implementation of products, fiduciary obligations and state regulations on reproductive care.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate legal risk.
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.
- 5-8+ years of legal experience, with significant focus on ERISA/employee benefits law at a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination of both.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal employee benefits law, including ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, HIPAA, ACA, CAA, COBRA, and FMLA.
- Strong understanding of healthcare privacy and data security law, including HIPAA and state privacy frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts for non-legal stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
