Complex Claims Specialist-MPL

Location: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Manhattan, or West Hartford, United States. Primarily hybrid, requiring in-office attendance at least two days per week for candidates located near an office; qualified remote candidates may also be considered.

Salary: $125,000–$155,000 per year, plus a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Handle and resolve complex mid- to high-severity primary Miscellaneous Professional Liability claims through all stages of the claims and litigation process.
• Draft complex coverage letters, including reservation-of-rights and denial letters.
• Review claim documentation and legal filings, and collaborate with outside experts, legal counsel, underwriting, insureds, and brokers.
• Lead defense strategies and promote litigation best practices on litigated files.
• Investigate, negotiate, and use mediation, arbitration, trials, and other alternative dispute resolution methods to achieve positive claim outcomes.
• Identify emerging exposures, claims trends, and suspected fraud while maintaining accurate compliant claim files and mentoring team members.

Requirements

• 6+ years of Professional Liability and/or Specialty or Financial Lines claims-handling experience.
• B.A. or B.S. degree required; a JD from an ABA-accredited law school is preferred or may supplement claims-handling experience.
• Advanced knowledge of coverage in the relevant specialty and of litigation processes, with strong negotiation and analytical skills.
• Experience leading complex claims outcomes through investigation, negotiation, and litigation, including mediations, arbitrations, or trials.
• Experience mentoring and training other claims examiners, working independently, and communicating effectively with insureds, attorneys, brokers, and internal partners.
• Adjuster licensing is required within 90 days of employment.
