Engineering Group Manager (Fastening Engineering)

Engineering Group Manager (Fastening Engineering): Leading a team of Fastener Design Release Engineers and Technical Specialists to ensure high-quality engineering execution across vehicle architectures with an accent on fastening strategy, joint design, and torque specifications. Focus on driving technical excellence from program initiation through Start of Regular Production (SORP) and optimizing manufacturable designs.

Location: Hybrid; Must be based in Warren, Michigan (on-site at least 3 days per week)

What you will do

• Lead and develop a team of approximately 12 Fastener Design Release Engineers and Technical Specialists.
• Ensure high-quality engineering deliverables across multiple vehicle architectures from initiation through SORP.
• Provide technical expertise in fastener selection, material/finish application, joint design, and torque strategies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including SQE, Buyers, and Manufacturing Engineering, to resolve assembly plant issues.
• Oversee fastening catalog content and partner with suppliers to develop new parts and support sourcing.
• Champion Engineering With Simplicity (EWS) to drive optimized customer value and robust designs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of fastening engineering experience.
• Working knowledge of GM CAD tools, including NX, Teamcenter/Active Workspace, and VisMockup.
• Proven ability to lead teams, develop talent, and motivate others in complex environments.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the US without immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Management.
