Engineering Group Manager - Fastening Engineering

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan, with on-site work at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. Travel is required up to 25%. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a team of approximately 12 Fastener Design Release Engineers and Technical Specialists.
• Direct fastening engineering deliverables across multiple vehicle architectures and programs from initiation through Start of Regular Production.
• Provide technical guidance on fastener selection, materials and finishes, joint design, torque strategies, manufacturing processes, and fastening best practices.
• Support robust joint design through manual joint analysis before FEA and review requested fastener testing.
• Resolve assembly plant issues, quality concerns, shortages, and other product or manufacturing challenges with durable solutions.
• Partner with Vehicle Engineering, CAE, Manufacturing Engineering, suppliers, Purchasing, and SQE to improve fastening solutions and meet GVHE deliverables.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of fastening engineering experience.
• Expertise in fastener selection, material and finish selection, joint design, torque specification, fastener manufacturing, and manual joint analysis before FEA.
• Working knowledge of GM CAD tools, including NX, Teamcenter/Active Workspace, and VisMockup.
• Proven ability to lead teams, develop talent, influence technical decisions, and manage multiple priorities.
• Must be able to work on-site in Warren, Michigan, at least three days per week and must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Management.
• DFSS Black Belt certification.
• Experience leading teams in complex engineering environments and driving vehicle integration and packaging efficiency.
