Manager, Field Engineering (Physical AI)

Location: Livingston, NJ; New York, NY; Sunnyvale, CA; or Bellevue, WA. The role requires access to export-controlled information; applicants must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for access under U.S. export regulations.

Base salary: $157,000–$231,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and evolve the Physical AI Field Engineering operating model from opportunity qualification through deployment, adoption, and expansion.
• Lead, hire, coach, and develop Specialist Field Engineers, Forward Deployed Data Scientists, and Forward Deployed Engineers.
• Set technical and delivery standards for solutions grounded in engineering criteria, physical constraints, and measurable customer value.
• Partner with strategic customers in automotive, robotics, aerospace, and industrial engineering, as well as executive stakeholders.
• Coordinate with Sales, Product, Engineering, Platform, and Field Engineering teams to qualify opportunities and allocate specialist capacity.
• Establish reusable engagement patterns, delivery standards, technical reviews, field-to-product feedback loops, and operating metrics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of experience in technical consulting, field engineering, product engineering, applied AI, or a related customer-facing engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience leading and developing technical teams, including hiring, workforce planning, career development, performance management, and succession planning.
• Technical depth in AI/ML applied to physical systems or engineering workflows, including data, modeling, validation, and deployment trade-offs.
• Experience partnering across Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Field Engineering.
• Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements for access to controlled information.

Nice to have

• Experience in automotive, robotics, aerospace and defense, industrial, manufacturing, or another engineering-intensive industry.
• Experience delivering AI solutions in embedded, on-site, production, or safety-critical environments.
• Familiarity with ML platforms covering experimentation, model management, data exploration, application development, and cloud deployment.
• Experience with capacity models, hiring plans, technical career frameworks, delivery KPIs, or portfolio-level planning.
• Experience turning recurring customer problems into reusable software, product capabilities, or standardized delivery patterns.
