Design Engineer (Frontend)

TL;DR

Design Engineer (Frontend/Fintech): Owning the front-end across a digital banking platform with an accent on UI/UX quality, design systems, and high-fidelity interactions. Focus on reducing UI debt, evolving the Telegraph design system, and building AI-accelerated product development workflows.

Location: Hybrid in Toronto, ON (3 days a week in office)

Salary: $130,500 – $159,500 CAD

What you will do

• Lead UI implementation for new features from concept to launch within product teams.
• Own and evolve the Telegraph design system, defining component APIs and interaction standards.
• Identify and systematically reduce UI/UX debt to raise the overall level of craft.
• Implement accessibility and performance as core product requirements.
• Collaborate with designers to refine interactions and replace traditional handoffs.
• Build infrastructure for AI-accelerated product development, including QA automation.

Requirements

• Proficiency in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and modern CSS.
• Experience working in a real engineering environment using Git and participating in code reviews.
• Strong eye for design detail and ability to articulate specific UI improvements.
• Focus on accessibility, cross-browser support, and functional motion.
• Genuine curiosity and ability to build with AI tooling.
• Must be based in Toronto and able to work from the office 3 days a week.

Nice to have

• Experience with motion or animation work (GSAP, Framer Motion, or vanilla CSS).
• Previous ownership or meaningful contributions to a React component design system.
