Engineer, Requirement and Change Management (Automotive)

Location: Ariake, Tokyo, Japan; work may take place in the office, at client sites, or from a home office. Up to 25% domestic and international travel is required.

What you will do

• Manage customer requirements for in-vehicle audio systems, cockpit domain controllers, and telematics or connectivity ECUs delivered to Japanese automotive customers.
• Coordinate requirement collection, structuring, distribution, agreement, baselining, traceability, and lifecycle monitoring.
• Act as the interface between Japanese OEM customers and internal engineering stakeholders.
• Own the customer and internal change request process, coordinating technical analysis, effort estimation, quotations, and approvals.
• Track requirement and change management KPIs, identify delivery risks and missing information, and escalate issues with clear context and next steps.
• Maintain requirements data and exchange official evaluation results through requirements management tools.

Requirements

• Fluent communication skills in English and Japanese.
• At least 5 years of experience working with or for a Japanese automotive supplier or carmaker.
• Basic knowledge of requirements management logic and the ability to interpret customer specifications and clarify ambiguities.
• Strong leadership, customer communication, decision-making, risk escalation, and governance-oriented skills.
• Ability to work with defined processes, decision ownership, escalation paths, and compliance requirements.
• Successful completion of a background investigation and aptitude test is required as a condition of employment.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of DOORS Next Generation, DOORS, and the DOORS exchange mechanism.
• Knowledge of RFI/RFQ processes, Automotive SPICE, configuration management, and baselining tools.
