What you will do

• Design experiments from the test apparatus to the testing procedure to measure material properties and instrument performance.
• Build foundational battery, material synthesis, and reactor models with strong mechanistic fidelity based on experimental results and theory.
• Predict future material properties and instrument performance to accelerate learning cycles and reduce empirical R&D costs.
• Document, streamline, and modularize workflows to ensure reproducibility and continuity of work.
• Present results, conclusions, and recommendations to engineering mentors and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Pursuing or recently completed an MSc or PhD in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or related fields.
• Prior experience in energy-related academic or industrial research and development environments.
• Experience with electrochemical, material science, and/or thermomechanical characterization methods.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Strong foundational knowledge in applied mathematics.
• Must be able to work full-time onsite in Alameda, CA for a minimum of 6 months starting June 2026.

Nice to have

• Experience working specifically with batteries.
• Experience with modeling software such as Pybamm or COMSOL.
