TL;DR
Employment Counsel (Legal): Advising the People team and business stakeholders on U.S. employment legal matters with an accent on compensation, benefits, and performance management. Focus on building scalable compliant employment programs and mitigating legal risks in a fast-paced AI research environment.
Location: Must be based in or be able to work from New York City or Washington, DC (Hybrid: minimum 3 days a week in office)
Salary: $265,000 - $320,000 USD

What you will do
- Advise the People team and managers on U.S. legal matters including compensation, benefits, and performance management.
- Implement and manage compliant employment programs aligned with company values and People philosophy.
- Translate complex employment law concepts into clear written guidance and actionable policies for stakeholders.
- Proactively identify and mitigate employment legal risks across the organization.
- Liaise and manage relationships with outside legal counsel.
- Monitor and disseminate updates on relevant employment laws and industry trends.
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- Substantial experience practicing employment law with a blend of law firm and in-house experience.
- Ability to provide practical legal guidance to non-lawyers on complex matters.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work from the New York or DC office at least 3 days a week.
Nice to have
- Active membership in the California or New York state bar.
- 7+ years of employment law experience.
- Experience at a technology company or high-growth environment.
- Experience advising on international employment legal matters.
