Interconnection Engineer (CAISO)

Location: Remote or San Francisco, Long Beach, Salt Lake City, or Louisville, United States. Some travel required, approximately 15%.

Salary: $94,000–$112,625 per year, plus annual bonus.

What you will do

• Support greenfield project development by reviewing transmission-system analysis, identifying interconnection agencies and procedures, and preparing and filing interconnection requests.
• Review utility study reports, track and report study results, and support the negotiation and execution of interconnection agreements and engineering and procurement agreements.
• Support CAISO interconnection activities throughout the development and construction lifecycle of new and acquired projects.
• Help integrate Transmission Owner schedules into project construction schedules and complete deliverables for interconnection facilities.
• Support due diligence and flag potential issues for review by the CAISO Interconnection Regional Lead.
• Monitor required system upgrades and identify mitigation solutions under applicable open access transmission tariffs.

Requirements

• BS in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Power Systems or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in renewable or traditional energy development, utility generation development, or transmission planning.
• Familiarity with reviewing and preferably running power-flow models, including PSS/E and/or PSLF.
• Knowledge of System Impact Studies and other interconnection studies for transmission-level renewable energy facilities, including experience with CAISO, PG&E, SCE, SDG&E, or SMUD.
• Understanding of electrical diagrams, preliminary site plans, and interconnection request packages.
• Awareness of US transmission systems and transmission expansion plans.
• Knowledge of Open Access Transmission Tariffs and Generator Interconnection Procedures.
• Understanding of reports published by Transmission Owners and Independent System Operators, as well as interconnection and transmission agreements and contracts.

Nice to have

• Previous employment or experience with an electric utility or a consultancy providing services within the listed US market footprints.
• Experience with secondary markets including PAC, APS, SRP, TEP, PNM, Tri-State, Xcel, or WAPA.
• Experience preparing and reviewing transmission-level interconnection requests and managing solar, battery storage, or wind projects through generator interconnection processes.
