Technical Sr. Planning Specialist (Electrical Utility)

Location: Hybrid at the Alhambra Service Center, California, with remote work on remaining days; employees are required to work and reside in California unless otherwise noted. Up to 20% travel and field work across the SCE service territory may be required, with occasional extended work at alternate locations.

Salary: $111,600–$167,400 annually.

What you will do

• Conduct long-term grid import planning analyses, transmission interconnection assessments, and distribution system planning projects.
• Develop electrical distribution plans, identify resources, and prepare cost estimates and construction options.
• Manage large design projects from inception through construction completion, including scope, timing, budget, policies, rates, and compliance.
• Perform field inspections, assess regional distribution system capabilities, and verify compliance with approved plans.
• Conduct power flow studies, build models, prepare economic analyses, and evaluate reliability, outages, causes, trends, and duration.
• Coordinate with internal personnel, organizations, customers, agencies, and stakeholders; provide training and manage workload as needed.

Requirements

• Three or more years of experience in electrical utility distribution/transmission/telecommunication design, distribution/transmission/telecommunication line construction, or an engineering discipline.
• Valid Class C Driver’s License.

Nice to have

• Ability to apply engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
• Experience determining scope of work, method of service, and overhead/underground construction methods.
• Proficiency with wind/pole loading applications, drafting systems, GIS, or related design systems such as SPIDA Calc, Autodesk AUD, cGIS, SAP, or equivalents.
• Experience preparing work orders, construction plans, or project packages.
• Ability to manage multiple technical or customer projects under shifting priorities.
• Ability to collaborate across clients, peers, management, agencies, and other teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, plus leadership or mentorship experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience managing customer or stakeholder interactions in technical, construction, or utility environments.
