Technical Sr. Planning Specialist (Electrical Utilities)

Location: Hybrid at the Alhambra Service Center, with employees required to work and reside in California. Up to 20% travel throughout the service territory and occasional work at alternate locations may be required.

Salary: $111,600–$167,400 per year

What you will do

• Conduct long-term grid import planning analyses, transmission interconnection assessments, power flow studies, and economic analyses.
• Develop distribution facility plans, identify required resources, and prepare construction cost estimates and options.
• Manage large technical design projects from inception through construction completion, ensuring compliance with policies, standards, rates, and schedules.
• Inspect field conditions, verify construction compliance, and assess regional distribution system capabilities against planning criteria.
• Monitor reliability targets and analyze outages by cause, trends, and duration.
• Coordinate with internal teams, customers, agencies, and other stakeholders while providing technical support, training, and workload management.

Requirements

• At least three years of experience in electrical utility distribution, transmission, telecommunication design or construction, or an engineering discipline.
• Valid Class C Driver’s License.
• Ability to apply engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
• Experience with construction methods, work orders, construction plans, project packages, or utility design systems.
• Ability to manage multiple technical or customer projects under shifting priorities and collaborate across teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; leadership or mentorship experience is beneficial.

Nice to have

• Proficiency with wind and pole loading applications, drafting systems, GIS, SPIDA Calc, Autodesk AUD, cGIS, SAP, or equivalent tools.
• Experience managing customer or stakeholder interactions in a technical, construction, or utility environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
