What you will do
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on employment-based immigration matters including H-1B, L-1, O-1, TN, and green card sponsorship.
- Coordinate with outside immigration counsel to manage visa petitions, extensions, transfers, and renewals.
- Maintain accurate immigration case tracking and ensure timely filing of all required documentation.
- Advise employees and managers on visa status, work authorization timelines, and compliance obligations.
- Educate the HR team and hiring managers on I-9 compliance and employment eligibility verification best practices.
- Support HR Generalist responsibilities and employee relations matters as needed.
Requirements
- 3–7 years of progressive HR generalist or business partner experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing employment-based immigration processes and working with immigration counsel.
- Strong knowledge of I-9 compliance, work authorization categories, and employment eligibility requirements.
- Solid understanding of federal and state employment law (FLSA, ADA, FMLA, Title VII).
- Proficiency in HRIS platforms such as Workday, ADP, or BambooHR.
- Must be based in or able to work onsite in Columbia, MD, USA.
Nice to have
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
- Experience working in technology, professional services, or multinational organizations.
- Familiarity with global mobility and international HR programs.
- Experience with PERM labor certification and I-140 sponsorship processes.
