TL;DR

Senior Reliability Engineer (Robotics): Establishing and leading the reliability engineering practice for an autonomous tractor fleet with an accent on mechanical, electrical, and systems durability. Focus on failure mode analysis, environmental testing programs, and translating field failure data into measurable product improvements.

Location: Hybrid in South San Francisco, USA. Occasional travel to Atlanta (ATL) is required.

Salary: $150,000 – $180,000 + Equity

What you will do

  • Establish the reliability engineering practice, including defining processes, metrics, and tooling for fleet reliability.
  • Lead failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis (FTA), and reliability block diagram (RBD) activities.
  • Define and track reliability metrics such as MTBF and MTTR, creating dashboards for leadership visibility.
  • Analyze field failure data to identify root causes and prioritize corrective design actions.
  • Manage external environmental testing programs, including vibration, shock, and thermal cycling with third-party labs.
  • Partner with hardware engineers during design phases to provide DFR input and identify risks.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of reliability engineering experience in hardware-centric industries (automotive, aerospace, robotics, or defense).
  • Deep expertise in FMEA, FTA, and RBD for complex electromechanical systems.
  • Experience defining and managing environmental and accelerated life testing programs.
  • Ability to analyze failure modes across mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems domains.
  • Strong data analysis skills and experience working with field failure data.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting technical findings to stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, mobile robots, or aviation ground support equipment.
  • Familiarity with standards such as MIL-STD-810, IEC 60068, ISO 26262, or ARP4761.
  • Experience with Weibull analysis and reliability growth modeling tools.
  • Prior experience building a reliability practice from scratch at an early-stage company.
