What you will do
- Lead the in-house legal function and serve as the primary owner of day-to-day legal execution across the business.
- Build, hire, and develop a high-performing legal team, including mentoring and organizational design as the company scales.
- Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice to executive leadership and business partners.
- Oversee legal support across regulatory counseling, consumer finance, employment, privacy, and corporate governance.
- Partner with the COO on risk management and strategic initiatives to scale the company’s operating model.
- Manage outside counsel and implement legal operations capabilities, including budgeting and intake workflows.
Requirements
- 10+ years of legal experience, including substantial in-house experience at high-growth or VC-backed companies.
- Strong familiarity with consumer finance, residential mortgage products, and their governing regulatory frameworks.
- Proven track record of building and scaling legal teams.
- JD from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the State Bar of California or eligibility for the in-house counsel exemption.
- Must be based within 50 miles of the Palo Alto HQ.
