What you will do

  • Lead the in-house legal function and serve as the primary owner of day-to-day legal execution across the business.
  • Build, hire, and develop a high-performing legal team, including mentoring and organizational design as the company scales.
  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice to executive leadership and business partners.
  • Oversee legal support across regulatory counseling, consumer finance, employment, privacy, and corporate governance.
  • Partner with the COO on risk management and strategic initiatives to scale the company’s operating model.
  • Manage outside counsel and implement legal operations capabilities, including budgeting and intake workflows.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of legal experience, including substantial in-house experience at high-growth or VC-backed companies.
  • Strong familiarity with consumer finance, residential mortgage products, and their governing regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling legal teams.
  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of California or eligibility for the in-house counsel exemption.
  • Must be based within 50 miles of the Palo Alto HQ.
