TL;DR

Legal Counsel (Fintech): Providing strategic legal guidance and risk analysis for Canada's payment network with an accent on technology contracting and third-party risk management. Focus on drafting complex commercial agreements, navigating financial services regulations, and balancing legal imperatives with business strategy.

Location: Hybrid in Toronto, Canada. Must be eligible to work in Canada in a full-time capacity.

Salary: $140,000 – $160,000 CAD

What you will do

  • Provide strategic and actionable legal advice on key business portfolios and emerging technologies.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a diverse range of commercial contracts, including complex technology vendor and cloud agreements.
  • Mitigate potential legal risks while delivering practical and pragmatic solutions for time-sensitive projects.
  • Advise on operationalizing contracts within a complex, multi-vendor environment.
  • Mentor junior lawyers and contribute to internal knowledge management and precedent development.

Requirements

  • Law Degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 2-5 years of practical post-call legal experience in a corporate legal department or law firm.
  • Eligibility to work for hirify.global Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.
  • Working knowledge of privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements for the financial services industry.
  • Proven experience advising on competition, intellectual property, technology, and licensing matters.
  • Strong critical thinking and ability to manage legal and reputational risk.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience working for technology vendors or within the payment industry.
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for the Credit and Debit Card Industry in Canada or the Payment Clearing and Settlement Act.
  • Experience with government and regulatory affairs.
