Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Onsite in Mountain View, California, or San Francisco, California

Salary: $175,000–$215,000 USD base salary per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and company benefits.

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology and operates a fully autonomous ride-hailing service powered by the Waymo Driver.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain highly scalable core booking services powering Waymo’s Marketplace.
• Enable users to hail and control autonomous vehicles through critical user-facing flows.
• Build reliable, low-latency, and fault-tolerant infrastructure.
• Architect APIs and distributed systems for internal and external partners.
• Collaborate with iOS and Android engineers, product managers, UX designers and researchers, and data scientists.

Requirements

• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of professional programming experience in backend coding languages.
• Experience building backend distributed systems.
• Ability to collaborate with mobile, frontend, product, design, and data teams.

Nice to have

• Production experience with C++.
• MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience developing low-latency, large-scale, user-facing distributed systems.
• Experience with ride-hailing or marketplace consumer platforms.
• Experience at another ride-hailing or marketplace company.
