Location: Charleston, SC with potential deployment to McMurdo Station, Antarctica; must pass physical qualification for Antarctica deployment.

What you will do
- Develop aviation, ship, and site forecasts and prepare briefings for pilots, camps, stations, and vessels.
- Create weather charts and briefing materials while supervising daily operations and personnel.
- Conduct and record surface weather observations, transmit METAR/SPECI and synoptic data per DoD/WMO guidelines.
- Launch and track radiosondes, evaluate upper-air data for pressure, temperature, humidity, and winds.
- Monitor inventory, develop shift schedules, train and certify weather observers for McMurdo and airfields.
- Perform quality checks, coordinate with teams, and provide input as SME for operational planning.
Requirements
- Graduate of DoD meteorology technician course or equivalent + 10 years forecasting experience including 3 years airfield support, OR HS/GED + 2 years as qualified aviation weather observer.
- Valid US passport required (reimbursable); able to obtain T1 clearance and pass background checks.
- Must pass medical/dental exam for potential Antarctica deployment (reimbursable); work in extreme cold/dark environments.
- Knowledge of all weather forecasting aspects, Microsoft Office, quality management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Nice to have
- 10+ years forecasting with 1+ year airfield experience; high-latitude/polar forecasting.
- Analytical case study development; 3 years as qualified weather observer.
