Stress Engineer (Aerospace)

TL;DR

Stress Engineer (Aerospace): Conducting stress analysis of gearboxes, geared rotary actuators, power drive units, hydraulic manifolds, and transmission shafts for high lift actuation or Horizontal Stabiliser Trim Actuators with an accent on static, fatigue, and impulse calculations. Focus on preparing stress summaries and reports, approving drawings, reviewing test specifications and results, and supporting failure investigations.

Location: Hybrid – Wolverhampton, GBR. Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance required and must be maintained.

What you will do

• Perform static and fatigue stress calculations for aerospace components and assemblies.
• Prepare stress summaries, reports, and approve component and assembly drawings.
• Compile or review test specifications, define loading cycles, and review test results.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing, assist other stress engineers, and engage in technical discussions.
• Support analysis methods, research activities, and failure investigations.

Requirements

• Degree qualified with at least 5 years’ experience in aerospace stress analysis or complex mechanical components.
• Proven capability in stress analysis, preparing calculations and reports to high standard.
• Experience in hand calculations essential; FEA required.
• Reviewer of test specifications and reports (QTP, QTR, ATP etc.).
• Knowledge of static (Proof/Ultimate), fatigue, and impulse testing.
• Good communication skills, ability to manage priorities and multi-task.

Nice to have

• Experience with Mathcad, CAD (SolidWorks or Unigraphics NX), ANSYS.
• Knowledge of aerospace materials and manufacturing processes.
• MRB/Non-conformance experience.
